Thanks for the well-written, concise history of Midwest immigration. I live in Wisconsin and love learning about my area's history. Our European roots are still evident here, - especially in Madison, WI. This past Saturday, we had dairy cows on the Captial steps. Members of the dairy industry sponsored a semi-festival celebrating the dairy industry and educating folks about its importance to our WI economy. The mini-festival was great fun for kids, - lots of cows to pet, games to play, ice cream to eat, and grilled cheese sandwiches cooked right on the square.

Ohhh you are making me homesick... for the good old U.S. of A! Born and raised in the PNW, then spent the last 7 years eating the best corn of my life in Iowa and Minnesota. Succulent, perfect, buttery corn on the cob was one of our daughter's very first foods (she mowed through it like a cartoon character) and in our new digs we only see corn on the cob pre-shucked and vacuum-packed in the grocery store. I try not to cry.
