Hello…was going to bake these cookies today with my sons…was wondering what was decided about the butter. Should I buy salted or unsalted butter? Looks yummy thanks for sharing. I have always loved frosted sugar cookies!

Wendy: it does harden a bit, but not enough to stack. I have brought many a cookie tray into my kiddos’ classrooms, full of these single-layered cookies. It is a small price to pay for the oohs and aahs:).

I wish I knew more about the frosting- does it harden? Can I stack them?

Hi. New to the site. I’m in the process of making these coveted cookies today. I just made the dough and it tastes acidic and salty. Perhaps from using salted butter and a tsp. of salt? Also 1 tsp of cream of tartar and baking soda. I added more powdered sugar to dilute the salty/acidic taste. Does the dough mellow out when baked? I’ll let you know how they bake up.

They are so soft and yummy. And this little star shaped one doesn’t do it justice. Course, the really cute ones I baked before I owned a digital camera!
