I haven't really explored all the options of simple syrups but this post was really inspiring.
I do make my own vanilla syrup for my morning coffee using real vanilla bean. That makes me excited to get out of bed in the morning!
Thanks for the inspiration.

Dear Janelle...found and read and enjoyed all your new \'posts\': Simple Syrups, Blue is the New Yellow, and the article for Kid Chefs (Kudos to Kids in the Kitchen caption...great alliteration!) I am so struck with how easy it seems for you to write, to come up with creative ideas, to sound so wonderfully conversational. Where is the \"monumental effort\" I thought all writers went through :-)? Loved the kid picture!! And the take-off on yellow...remember the book you gave me? THE PERSISTENCE OF YELLOW? I cherish it still. Your kids are both very inspirational...that\'s all there is to it. And so are you!
Love, Mom

[...] And to celebrate his kitchen pleasures we invited a few friends over for a sleepover. First, we handed them each a white chef hat; they decorated them with permanent markers. Next, we provided miniature rolling pins. To commemorate their chef crown experience, I had them create their own Italian sodas (using easy to make syrups) , roll and top their own pizzas and help me blend and roll cookies. My son’s birthday present request was to attend a cooking class (which he was able to do via William Sonoma. Also look into possible classes at Whole Food Kids). [...]
